Happy Pongal and Thiruvadirai January 13, 2006

Pongal is a four day long harvest festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu and is one of the most important popular Hindu festivals of the year. It is also known as Sankaranthi in other parts of the country.

Thiruvadirai festival is celebrated by Kerala Iyers and is a mixture of the practice of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

As Palakkad Iyers we celebrate both. Mom made some ‘kali’ (a sweet dish), which I enjoyed. In the evening we may all go out to a Shiva temple.
